Dr Christine Sanderson is a palliative medicine specialist who trained in Adelaide, and who has worked in many parts of Australia since then. In 2019 she did a locum in Alice Springs, and never left. She is now the Medical Director of Territory Palliative Care Central Australia, a small team that covers the whole of Central Australia. The service includes a unique 10 bed inpatient unit, called Apmere amantye-akeme – which in Arrernte language means “The Comfort House.” The whole team shares a deep commitment to providing kind and culturally safe palliative care, in the midst of the clinical and social complexity of Alice Springs.
