The Research Centre for Palliative Care, Death and Dying (RePaDD) at Flinders University is dedicated to improving care at the end of life through world-class research, education, and community engagement.
RePaDD’s research explores the experiences of people living with life-limiting illness, their families, and the health professionals who care for them—developing evidence-based solutions that make palliative and end-of-life care more accessible, compassionate, and effective across all settings. Our innovative digital tools, service evaluations, and workforce programs drive real-world impact and inform national and international practice.

The Palliative Care Outcomes Collaboration (PCOC) is a national program funded by the Australian Government to improve patient and carer outcomes. Through standardised clinical assessments, PCOC enables symptom management, benchmarking, and quality improvement. Its core framework creates a common clinical language, supporting better communication and care. Participation is voluntary and open to all Australian palliative care services, offering education, tailored support, and a national community of practice. PCOC provides valuable insights into symptom trends and treatment effectiveness, shaping the future of evidence-based, patient-centred palliative care.
The Cancer and Palliative Care Outcomes Centre (CPCOC) leads innovative research across a range of themes, including Palliative Care across the lifespan. CPCOC comprises established and emerging clinicians, researchers and educators from various disciplinary backgrounds who are striving to improve the quality of care provided to people living with a range of life-limiting conditions. Our research focuses on improving the management of symptoms associated with advanced disease, innovative models of service delivery, and workforce development.

CarerHelp (www.carerhelp.com.au) is an online resource for carers who are caring toward the end of life. The website is a resource that houses extensive end-of-life information for families, including videos from carers and videos from Health Professionals. CarerHelp is available for all Australians, with specific information for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, the LGBTIQA+ communities, information in 9 languages and a more recent addition for those in rural and remote areas of Australia.

NeuronsVR is a clinically informed, non-pharmacological therapy program designed to support comfort, connection, and quality of life in palliative care.
Developed in collaboration with clinicians, dementia specialists, sound therapists and gerontologists, NeuronsVR delivers personalised therapeutic experiences that support pain management, emotional wellbeing, and meaningful connection at end of life.
Through carefully curated visual and auditory stimulation, NeuronsVR can help reduce anxiety, agitation and distress, promote deep relaxation, and support altered states of consciousness similar to meditation—without medication. Experiences are tailored to individual preferences, life history, culture and spiritual needs, enabling residents to reconnect with familiar places, memories and loved ones.
NeuronsVR integrates seamlessly into care plans as a complementary therapy, supporting comfort, dignity and person-centred care while aligning with the Strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards and contemporary palliative care practice.

Palliative Aged Care Outcomes Program (PACOP)
The Palliative Aged Care Outcomes Program (PACOP) is an evidence-based, best practice model which supports aged care homes (ACHs) to provide optimal palliative and end-of-life care for all residents and their families/carers. PACOP returns reports to drive systematic quality improvement in ACHs and across the residential aged care sector with a national benchmarking program. PACOP aims to directly contribute to the overall strengthening and resilience of our aged care system by providing training and support on the use of the PACOP assessment and response framework. PACOP is a national palliative aged care program fully funded by the Australian Government Department of Health, Disability & Ageing with participation freely available to Australian residential aged care homes.
End of Life Directions for Aged Care (ELDAC) is a National Palliative Care Project funded by the Australian Government Department of Health, Disability and Ageing.
ELDAC supports quality palliative care and advance care planning for older people receiving aged care services.
ELDAC promotes change at the individual, organisational and sector levels and is informed by evidence-based strategies.

End-of-Life Essentials is funded by the Australian Government Department of Health, Disability and Ageing and operates from Flinders University. End-of-Life Essentials provides online learning opportunities and practice resources for doctors, nurses and allied health professionals to improve the quality and safety of end-of-life care in hospitals.
